Club Nintendo Gold and Platinum Rewards are All Digital

Nintendo has announced the Gold and Platinum prizes for this year's Club Nintendo users. Oddly, there are no physical items. All the rewards are digital games.

This is quite the change from previous years, where rewards were things like posters, figurines, buttons, and playing cards. The list of available games is as follows:

Platinum Games

Game & Wario (Wii U)
NES Remix (Wii U)
EarthBound (Wii U)
Dr. Luigi (Wii U)
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (3DS)
Fluidity: Spin Cycle (3DS)
Dillon's Rolling Western (3DS)
Mario & Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move (3DS)

Platinum or Gold games

Ice Climber (Wii U)
Kid Icarus (Wii U)
Super Mario Bros. (Wii U)
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (Wii U)
Donkey Kong 3 (3DS)
Wario Land II (3DS)
Metroid (3DS)
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (3DS)

Some of these games retail for $30 or more, so it's not a bad prize. But I'll be honest. I'm disappointed that they're all digital prizes, and they're available for purchase through normal means. The whole fun of Club Nintendo is to get items you can't get elsewhere.

Regardless, did you get Platinum or Gold this year? What do you plan on picking up?

I got platinum and admit I'm disappointed as well! Like you said, it should be unique items that you're rewarded with by getting gold or platinum. I think Nintendo is great, but they really dropped the ball on this one.

I'm pretty disappointed with the whole thing. This was the first year I was able to get platinum, and then they only did readily available download games. I whined for a while, and then my sister said, "It's a free game. Stop complaining." True, but physical stuff was way cooler.
